Audrina Patridge recalls being “humiliated” by Justin Timberlake at the 2007 VMAs

Audrina Patridge doesn’t think much of Justin Timberlake.

In his new memoirs, Choice: To the hills and backthe reality star, 37, called out the “rude and diva-like behavior” of the “SexyBack” singer when she helped introduce him to a Moonman at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards.

“We’ve been invited to so many award shows, and even been asked to present a few times,” Patridge wrote in an excerpt from her book, which comes out Tuesday. “I will never forget the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, in particular. Lauren [Conrad]Whitney [Port] and I was on stage to present the Male Artist of the Year award.”

She said Conrad and Port “were beyond excited when Justin Timberlake won” – beating Akon, Robin Thicke, TI and Kanye West – “because they were superfans. It wasn’t my kind of music, so I didn’t care less, but I was excited for them.” However, Timberlake – clearly not a The hills fan – “wouldn’t even come up to us and accept the award in front of a full house.”

Timbaland, who performed with Timberlake that night, then took the stage, took the trio’s award, and presented it to JT himself “as we backed off to the side.” (In his book, Patridge mistakenly remembers that it was Chris Brown who spoke. Timberlake mentioned Brown in his speech.)

Patridge said it all “devastated” Conrad and Port as she was “annoyed by his rude diva behavior”.

Timberlake’s speech only exacerbated his feelings.

“As if that wasn’t enough, Justin took center stage and told the crowd, ‘MTV, play more fucking videos. We don’t want to see The Simpsons on reality TV,” while Jessica and Ashlee had shows on the network in the mid-19s and The hills catapulted her stars – including also Heidi Montag – to fame after its creation in 2006.

Patridge saw her comments as a “personal attack” on reality stars while “Lauren’s jaw dropped. We were humbled.”

This era – things – were strange for celebrity, especially Timberlake. He parted ways with boy band NSync and their 2006 album FutureSex/LoveSounds was a mega-hit. But he also broke up with his girlfriend Britney Spears, exploiting their 2002 split in interviews and songs as she publicly struggled. He also left Janet Jackson to fend for herself after Nipplegate at the 2004 Super Bowl.

While addressing his treatment of Spears and Jackson in 2021, Timberlake said, in part, that he was “deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak for what was right.”

Timberlake has not commented on this memory. Yahoo Entertainment has reached out to their rep and will update this story if they do.

The hills was a mega-hit for MTV during its run – receiving a boost from Kristin Cavallari after Conrad left in 2009. A spin-off The Hills: A New Beginning premiered in 2019 – with Patridge returning – but was canceled earlier this year.
