Bad Bunny’s A summer without you lands a sixth week atop the Billboard 200 chart (dated July 30). The set earned 103,000 equivalent album units in the US in the week ending July 21 (down 2%), according to Luminate. Only three albums have landed at least six weeks at No. 1 since January 2021 – A summer without youAdele’s 30 (with six) and Morgan Wallen Dangerous: the double album (10 weeks).

Also in the top 10, Lizzo marks her highest charting album to date with the #2 debut of SpecialSteve Lacy achieves his first top 10 with the arrival of Gemini Rights and ITZY land their first top 10 with the arc of Checkmate.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the United States based on multimetric consumption measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units include album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals 1 album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 official ad-supported audio and video streams or 1,250 paid/on-demand subscription generated songs from a album. A summer without you gained over 100,000 in each of its first 11 weeks on the chart. The last time an album did was over six years ago, when Adele 25 saw its first 14 weeks surpass all 100,000 units (charts dated December 12, 2015 to March 12, 2016).

Lizzo achieves her highest-charting album on the Billboard 200 as her final studio effort, Special, debuted at No. 2 with 69,000 equivalent album units earned. Of this sum, album sales include 39,000; SEA units include 28,000 (equivalent to 37.07 million official on-demand streams of tracks in the set) and TEA units include 2,000.

Special is the highest-ranking album released by a woman this year, and it also launched with the biggest week, by units earned, among all albums released by women in 2022.

Special is Lizzo’s second top 10 effort on the Billboard 200, after Because I love youwhich peaked at No. 4 in 2019.

The new album was led by the hit single “About Damn Time,” which climbed to No. 2 on the most recently released Billboard Hot 100 song chart (dated July 23). The track logged two weeks at No. 1 on the all-format radio song chart and reached the top 10 on the streaming song count.

Four former No. 1 albums are next on the Billboard 200, like Harry Styles Harry’s house increased from 4 to 3 (52,000 equivalent album units, down 2%), Wallen’s Dangerous climbs 5-4 (48,000; down 2%), Drake’s Honestly it doesn’t matter is up 6-5 (37,000; down 13%) and Future’s I never loved you moves from 7 to 6 (35,000; down 6%).

Steve Lacy lands his first Billboard 200 top 10 on his second solo set Gemini Rights comes in at No. 7 with 34,000 equivalent album units earned. ITZY’s Checkmate debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, giving the South Korean quintet their first top 10 effort. The set begins with 33,000 equivalent album units earned, including 31,000 album sales; SEA units comprise 2,000 (equivalent to 2.96 million official on-demand streams of the tracks in the set) and TEA units comprise the rest of the units.

Like many K-pop releases, the CD setup of Checkmate was released in collectible deluxe packages (17 in total, including exclusive versions for Target and Barnes & Noble) each with a standard set of items and random items (such as photo cards and posters); 98% of the album’s first week sales were on CD. The remaining 2% were digital album sales. (The set was not released in any other format, such as vinyl or cassette.)

Rounding out the new Billboard 200 top 10, Brent Faiyaz Wastelandwhich falls from 2 to 9 (32,000 equivalent album units; down 63%), and Lil Durk’s top spot 7220which plunges from 8 to 10 (31,000; down 11%).
