A former president’s duty is never truly done, especially since those duties are usually limited to ‘doing nothing’ and ‘showing up when they open your library’, but Barack Obama bravely kept working on his annual summer playlist— one of the keys to the relative unity that we all shared when he was in power. (And this should not be confused with his annual list of his favorite music of the yearwhich is a totally separate list that he also personally meets every year.)

Anyway, Obama released his summer playlist, and like all of his playlists, it’s an odd mix of stuff that really seems like something he’d like and stuff that seems oddly hip for a former president (not to mention father) in their sixties. But either way, if any of this is less than true, it must rank pretty low on the list of things politicians have lied about. So what’s on the playlist? This includes Obama podcast partner Bruce Springsteen (and a rather famous piece of his to that), “Let’s Go Crazy” by Prince, “Do I Move You?” by Nina Simon, “Feelin’ Alright” by Joe Cocker, “I Can’t Get Next To You” by Al Green, and – in one of the most surprising selections we’ve ever seen on any of these lists Obama—”Praise You” by Fatboy Slim. Yes, not only is someone listening to “Praise You” in 20-goddamn-22, but that someone is Barack Obama.

“Praise You” aside, the list also has plenty of newer songs (newer than Fatboy Slim’s “Praise You”?!), like Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul” (Is Obama implying that he will quit his job no matter what.?), “Music For A Sushi Restaurant” by Harry Styles and “Angelica” by Wet Leg. Also, we had “Will Praise You” play in another tab, and we have to say: it still hits. Obama was right! Song of the summer!
