Drake sings “I’m Like a Bird” with Nelly Furtado in Toronto – Billboard

Drake brought one of his musical idols to his stage during October World Weekend in Toronto: fellow Canadian Nelly Furtado.

“Thank God I’m a kind, humble, well-spoken person – I like to treat people the right way – because that’s the only way to get this the next person to come out of the house to come and do what they’re going to do now,” Drake told the crowd at his hometown History club on Thursday night (July 28).

“I don’t care how hard you sang tonight. Right now I need you to sing as loud as you can because it’s taken a long time here,” he said.

“This next person’s music has changed my life so much,” Drake added. “I love her with all my heart, so when she comes here, you better show her some love too.”

Furtado then joined Drake onstage at a concert he billed as “a celebration of the music that paved the way for all of us.” She came off the 2006 hit “Promiscious” before embarking on her 2001 breakthrough, “I’m Like a Bird.”

Drake encouraged his “choir” of an audience to sing — “they have beautiful voices,” he insisted — on “I’m Like a Bird.” He also chimed in on himself, faithfully crooning “although my love be true” and other parts of the tune’s chorus before hugging the singer.

The October World Weekend festivities continue on Monday. Chris Brown and Lil Baby headlined the Budweiser Stage on Friday, July 29, and Drake, Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne will be performing on the same stage on August 1.
