TAIPEI HOUSTONthe new group with Myles and Layne Ulrichson of METALLIC drummer Lars Ulrichjust released their first single, “At sunset”Going through C3 Folders. The heady, heart-pounding track is balanced between distorted bass and tight, snappy drums that break up briskly for a quick chorus proclamation. With the release of the song, TAIPEI HOUSTON also unveiled the vertiginous and electric clip directed by Victor Grossling.
Trained in the Bay Area in Northern California, TAIPEI HOUSTON was born from the two brothers’ return to their childhood home during the pandemic. They then moved to Los Angeles and, once able to perform live again, began playing shows throughout Southern California.

23 years Myleswho plays drums, spent time at Berklee College Of Music, when at age 21 Laynewho plays bass and sings, studied at NYU.
Asked what made him sing, Layne Told Gig pipeline: “I’ve always been very interested in singing. I mean, my main thing [was] literally just singing on the radio as a kid and just listening to stuff. And I’ve always been very attached to that but I had never been a singer or anything like that. And then when we started our project, we were always planning on having a singer, and then when we realized it was just going to be the two of us, it was, like, ‘Okay. Now we have to turn it on, make it sing. So, through a long process, finding that was really cool.”
Regarding the decision to be made TAIPEI HOUSTON a two-piece, Myles said, “We’ve written the majority of an album that we’ve now finished. And we’re figuring out how to play it all live because we just recorded it all. And because we both play so much guitar and all the instruments, it was like, ‘Why don’t you just cut it down and make it a crazy two-part thing instead of trying to find more people that you associate with and that the vibe is right? Why not just keep it simple and weird?’”
Added Layne“Because that way, too, we can get on the rails. You gotta find people you like, you gotta put them in the thing, you gotta teach them. That way, literally, coming straight from us having everything written together, we can just start running like this.”
TAIPEI HOUSTON played their first show last September at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach, California.
